Hello folks, Need help! I'm currently in metro Detroit area (Michigan). I have a job offer in Nashville. I'm trying to decide if I want to take this job. The total competition that I would be getting in Nashville is 5k-10k less than my current job. But, I believe the cost of living is way more expensive in Nashville compared to Detroit. The lower cost of living in Detroit offsets the income tax savings(4.25% tax in Michigan) in Nashville. Any advice?

Hey Sam, If you have good friends and well established circle for social life I dont recommend Nashville. You may be ok if you move down south for starting a family or accept higher positions . You may assume that you can escape snow and harsh weather but 4 months of snow in Detroit is still acceptable when you consider unpreparedness of southern cities TBH Nashville qualifies for a great city to tour and invest but may not for settling down .

I moved exactly like you from Detroit to Nashville. 3years ago. In terms of compensation you are right you'll be making almost same because of no income tax. But if you want to buy anything then state tax is 9.25% here which is 3% more than MI. And cost of living is also higher comparitively. The positives are it is bit safer than MI and it's growing alot so if you wanna move here switch to different bigger company in future then it's worth it. I sometimes do regret leaving MI but that's just my opinion. Good luck
